Breaking the Epigraph

Books are my passion

Book review | My thoughts—Back in the Texan’s Bed

Naima Simone

Book one on the Texas Cattleman’s Club: Heir Apparent series is a secret baby reunion romance by Naima Simone. Russell “Ross” Edmond Jr. sought some acknowledgment from his father, Russell “Rusty” Edmond Sr., but it was never forthcoming for him or his siblings. There was one bright spot in Ross’s life three years ago…Charlotte Jarrett. Then she left too. Charlotte Jarrett is back home in Royal, Texas, after fleeing three years ago. She is living her best life as head Chef of a trendy new restaurant, Sheen; however, a blast from her past is about to confront her and find out the secret she has been keeping.

It was a nice read, and while I enjoyed reading this book, there were several things that I did not like. Ross was a beta male going up against the alpha male, his father (a bully). His father told him where he stood from the beginning regarding Charlotte. Charlotte should have let Ross know from the beginning the real reason she left his father’s employment. She did not allow him to sink or swim. Ross didn’t really confront his mother or Charlotte on why they left; he allowed them to confront him. When push comes to shove, Ross walks away instead of communicating with Charlotte.

As I write this review, The Night I Called the Old Man Out, one of my favorite songs by Garth Brooks plays in my head. Now I doubt Rusty cutting Ross off hurt him at all.
